Adding Functional Documentation #104737

Hi there,

I use blender, but sometimes I forget how to do basic things after not using the software for a while, also when begging out with blender I would have really appreciated something like this.

I'm proposing to add content to the documentation which starts with a simple goal, and then lists a series of steps/tools a user may use to acheive said goal. I would mainly be able to help out with this in the context of modeling basic geometry, which I think is most useful for new blender users.

One example of this could be "How do I create a basic floor", and then leads the user through a way to acheive this goal by creating a cube, and then scaling it on the x and y axis.

What do the members think of something like this?

This is something that we had long time ago with written tutorials: https://archive.blender.org/wiki/2015/index.php/Doc:2.6/Tutorials/

The problem is that these are often much harder to maintain.

The current manual has been designed with the concept that it is a "reference manual". Meaning its great at explaining the parts and how they interact with each other but not necessarily how to achieve certain goals.

That being said, the content you are describing, I don't think it belongs in the manual.
However, perhaps at some point we can create a website for community regulated text tutorials.

If you are interested in this still I can lay down the ground framework for this unofficially.

I am going to close this report because I don't see this as something that will concern the Blender Manual.
Feel free to continue to use this as a discussion thread however.

Hey, thanks for the info. Yes I am still interested in something like this where there is a community website which has regulated text tutorials.

I would be able to help out with this, but it wouldn't be full time or anything because I'm still going to school.
