Only Show Selected not showing keyframed materials on selected mesh (documentation plea) #104910

When a mesh is selected, the Timeline does not show keyframed materials on the mesh, which can lead to some head-scratching. This seems to be a design choice: (from blender/blender#78736)

From what I can see from @lichtwerk's investigation is that the "Only Show Selected" is also applied to shader nodes. This makes sense, but since the dopesheet isn't aware of the other editors that are open, it has no way of knowing whether you're looking at the General/Layout workspace (and thus want to see all animated properties of the currently selected objects, including its shading nodes) or at the Shading workspace (and thus want to see only selected nodes).

There are many properties in Blender that are not directly bound to any particular selected object. This means that they will never show up when "Only Show Selected" is enabled. As far as I can see this is by design, but if it's inconsistent or unclear why this is happening there could be room for improvement.

Blender's a huge program and I'm self-taught, so I may be missing something. However, this seems very counterintuitive, and it seems like the manual should at least reference this feature.
