Short description of error
Looks, like file made with 2.79 or older, and it works with texture directly. So it will not work with 2.8+ versions, where modifier can`t override texture.
I suggest this file. It use UV inside shader nodes, so will work with 2.79 — 3.1

The seconв issue: manual skips thaе there is key difference between projection from camera object and any other object.
Camera object makes -Z point projection, but objects do plane/parallel projections.
