MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021)
Apple M1 Max
64 GB RAM
Operating system: Mac OS Monterey 12.5
Broken: (Blender 3.3.0 Beta
8c59b93505
Branch: master ARM64)Worked: (Blender 3.2.1 ARM64)
While using Blender on Macbook Pro, some areas of Blender's interface such as the 3D viewport are not responsive to mouse input (while others are). I've tried with both my laptop trackpad and a bluetooth mouse and both have the same problem.
To be clear, this is not a crash or Blender hanging - Blender itself is responsive, but some areas of the interface cannot be clicked.
It's a peculiar issue, so I've recorded a video of it happening:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/dslkyn6ev09ca6o/Screen%20Recording%202022-08-11%20at%2007.26.14.mov?dl=0
This doesn't happen on Blender 3.2.1 - only happening on Blender 3.3 Beta or 3.4 Alpha on MacBook Pro.
So far as I can tell it isn't happening on Windows at all.
This happens on any file - I simply load up the default scene and experience this issue (in 3.3 Beta or 3.4 Alpha on my MacBook Pro).

I personally can not reproduce the issue.
Are you able to try loading factory settings and seeing if that helps? This can be done selecting from the top of Blender {nav File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings}.
If you can't access this menu due to an unresponsive UI in that part, then try this instead:
Finder
(the MacOS file browser)Option
key, select {nav Go > Library}Library
folder, open {nav Application Support > Blender}3.3
or3.4
folder to something else, then open that version of Blender. It should now be using factory settings. Here is a video that demonstrates those steps: F13361558
Does this fix the issue? If so, then the issue is caused by an add-on you have, or a setting you're using. And you'll need to go through your settings and figure out which one it is and let us know so we can investigate the issue further.
Here is my system information:
System Information
Operating system: macOS-12.5-arm64-arm-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: Apple M1 Pro Apple 4.1 Metal - 76.3
Blender version: 3.4.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2022-08-11 06:48, hash:
aa0ca3aefa
(ARM64)Thanks a lot for looking at this - after restoring the factory settings it's now working as expected. I thought I had tried that step, but I must have not successfully reset the prefs.
As you suggested - the preferences pane is affected by the issue I was having (can't scroll within the pane), so I can't easily compare the settings or add-ons from one version to the other.
Is there a method that you could recommend that I could do this i.e to compare the text contents of the settings file?
I could also supply the userpref file if this is of any use.
Many thanks
I have a suspicion the issue is caused by an add-on you have enabled. However, it could also be your start up file.
Feel free to upload these files:
Startup file (In Finder {nav Library > Application Support > Blender > 3.3/3.4 > Config > startup.blend})
User preferences (In Finder {nav Library > Application Support > Blender > 3.3/3.4 > Config > userpref.blend})
System information (If you can access this, open the impacted version of Blender with the impacted user preferences, then select from the top of the screen {nav Help > Save System Info}, save the file, then upload it here)
the affected startup.blend from 3.3 > startup.blend
the affected userpref.blend from 3.3 > userpref.blend
I was unfortunately unable to save the system info as it resulted in an error, however - it did produce a Python error message which I presume might be of some use:
Python error while saving system information >
I just did a bit of troubleshooting myself and it looks to be related to the add on called 'Proxy Picker'. When I removed this add on from the 3.3 folder and restarted Blender, suddenly the UI became responsive.
Just a further update - I looked at the py file of the add on I referred and all the text was gone. I'm unsure how that would have happened, but I'm guessing that somehow the code got deleted (by me?) after the add on got installed. Seems unlikely it would have arrived like that.
It's odd the Proxy Picker add-on is broken. And I'm not sure what would cause it.
Are you able to try loading factory settings, then adding the Proxy Picker add-on and see if you have the same issue?

We cannot give support for third party add-ons on here, therefore closing the report.
