Short description of error
I'm not sure if it's unimplemented/unplanned or just overlooked, so I'm here to report in case.
When you have a mesh using an Armature modifier and Subdivision modifier, the Subdivision will affect performance while posing the armature but enabling GPU Subdivision will noticeably improve performance during posing and animation.
However, if you select the armature and the mesh and go into weight paint mode, allowing you to pose the rig, the GPU Subdivision will not boost performance with the Subdivision modifier. Weight Paint Pose is slower regardless as to the Subdivision modifier, just GPU Subdivision seems to be disabled here.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
GPU Subdivision
is enabled in Preferences#101485.blend

I can't repro.
But I'm not sure if GPU subdivision is 100% supported on Mac.
I will test on Windows later.

@mano-wii I can confirm the bug. there is a difference between the GPU and the usual subdivision, while it is quite large

Thanks for the report. I've not been able to replicate it form scratch. A .blend would help for further investigation.

I can confirm that optimization by
GPU Subdivision
doesn't work in Weight Paint mode when posing a rig.But I can't tell if this is a bug, or if the feature is not available in this case due to technical limitations.
Needs information from developers.

GPU subdivision should work without issues in any mode, so this is a bug. The slow down seems to be caused by the subdivision being also evaluated on the CPU for each stroke.
