System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 x64
Graphics card: RTX 8000
Blender Version
Broken: 10/26/2022 build
Short description of error
Viewer node does not work if used for the very first time inside a compositor node group. Once the user goes back to the top level composite and connects a Viewer Node, it works, and then updates normally when going back into node groups.

Does this still happen in the latest daily version? https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/
Maybe
8ef092d2d8
fixed it.Yes, the behavior with the CPU compositor & Viewer Node not initializing is still there in today's daily build. (Thanks for the O shortcut fix for the Viewport compositor!)
I notice that the Viewer node is square when I first connect it to a node inside a node group. It only gets the aspect ratio of the rendered comp after it's connected to the top level Render Layers, at which point it's somehow initialized.
This bug isn't a showstopper. I'd prefer to get the rest of the nodes ported to the Viewport Compositor. The update speed is everything.
