Changed status from 'Needs Triage' to: 'Needs User Info'
Hi, thanks for the report. Could you verify whether updating
libnvidia-egl-wayland
package fixes the crash? see: #102013Changed status from 'Needs User Info' to: 'Needs Triage'
Hi Pratik.
I always keep packages updated and already have the latest available version.

Changed status from 'Needs Triage' to: 'Needs Developer To Reproduce'
Any updates on this?
Changed status from 'Needs Developer To Reproduce' to: 'Needs Triage'
One more update from my side.
The LTS 3.3.3 version from the stable channel works fine.
This looks to be a known error in NVIDIA-wgl-wayland which has been fixed in
v1.10.0
, whereas your runningv1.1.9
See: https://github.com/NVIDIA/egl-wayland/issues/41#issuecomment-1235546327
Other projects were running into this too.
Would you be able to test this workaround linked from the issue? Aparently this works for some users.
Run this in the command line.
Then start blender from the same prompt.
Blender crashes on launchto Blender crashes on launch under Wayland with NVIDIABlender crashes on launch under Wayland with NVIDIAto Crash on launch under Wayland + NVIDIA@Ivan-Konenko : did you have a chance to check the workaround?
I've checked that and could run version 3.4, but I cannot say it's a convenient way to use Blender. I don't get how to update NVIDIA-wgl-wayland in Ubuntu 22.04.1 to avoid any problems.
The current "workaround" for me is the downgrade to Blender LTS 3.3 version.
I still don't get if that is really a library problem because all the rest software works like a charm. In general, it's quite a frustrating experience to install the fresh system and drivers, install all updates, add Blender from the official store, and not able even to run it.
NVidia used to fall back to X11 on some distributions (if I recall correctly), is this still the case or does a default installation of Ubuntu 22.04.1 on NVidia now use Wayland by default?
Checking because if this is a default configuration I would expect more users to have run into this.
This is a library problem, it's a confirmed bug that was fixed. Just because Blender is the only application you use that runs into it, does not mean it's a bug in Blender and does not happen in other applications.
As far as I can tell Wayland is disabled by default on Ubuntu 22.04 with NVIDIA graphics presumably for reasons like this.
I think the best solution would be for Ubuntu to upgrade to the library version with the bugfix. I don't think Blender developers can be responsible for supporting a system configuration that Ubuntu developers did not consider ready to enable by default. We would like Blender to run on as many configurations as possible, but realistically it's not a good time investment to find a workaround for a bug that was already fixed in the system library.
Noted that NVidia GPU's may be unsupported and even crash on startup in Blender's user manual:
https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/3.6/getting_started/installing/linux_windowing_environment.html (will take some time to update).
Closing as this is a non-default configuration which has known issues.
