Attributes faceting in bump channel #104081

System Information
Operating system: Window 10
Graphics card: Nvidia 3060ti

Blender Version
Broken: 3.4 latest stable release
Worked: Hasn't ever worked

Using the color attributes, either from sculpt vertex paint or from geometry nodes attributes - none of these attributes can be used in the bump channel due to these faceted polygons showing.
Even when the mesh is shade smoothed, the attributes ignore shade smooth and remain faceted.

This makes it impossible to use any kind of attribute in sculpt vertex painting for bump maps.
(Leaving users no other choice but to subdivide to tens of millions of polygons and sculpting fine details that otherwise should be just done with a bump map.)

And doesn't allow for any kind of bump map to be produced in geometry nodes and passed to the shader.
(Leaving users no other choice but to subdivide to tens of millions of polygons for geometry details that otherwise could be done with a bump map. Or forcing the user to create a bump map with shader nodes that has no coherency with the geometry)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

This is indeed a problem, but I think its not a bug. Everything is working as expected. Maybe there could be a options to interpolate the normals, like smooth normals does, but the right place for that would be right click select.
For the short terms, you could unwrap the model and add a high res texture and paint on that.

Hi, thanks for the report. Underlying issue mentioned in this report seems same as reported in #74367 (Bump Map and Normal Map causes flat shading.)
I'll close this as duplicate for now. Feel free to comment if there is misunderstanding. I'll reopen the report in that case
