System Information
Operating system: ArchLinux
Graphics card: NVidia 3080

Blender Version
Broken: 3.4.1, ef9ca44dee, 2023-02-07
Worked: unsure

Short description of error

When I install a new version of blender via my package manager, and I run blender with no arguments, I get a splash screen that gives me the option to "Load 3.3 Settings".

However, if I run blender path/to/file.blend, I do not see the splash screen, and do not get prompted to load my settings from the previous version are lost. After this happens, blender will never prompt to load the old settings, even if run without arguments later.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

  1. Configure some preferences in Blender 3.3 (e.g. shortcuts)
  2. Update to Blender 3.4 via your package manager
  3. Run blender path/to/file.blend
  4. Note that preferences/shortcuts are lost

I'm able to work around this by running cp -r ~/.config/blender/{$last_version,$current_version}, but it seems like blender should show a splash for a new version regardless of how it is opened.

Hi, thanks for the report. Does this option show up when splash screen is opened manually?
Click Blender icon in Header > Splash Screen
This Would be considered as a bug if splash screen still shows the option.

Yes, I do see an option to load 3.3 settings if I manually open the splash screen.
