Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.5.0 Beta, branch: blender-v3.5-release, commit date: 2023-02-22 19:57, hash:
c760248fc5aa
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)
Short description of error
Selection of vertices in material preview in fullscreen viewport (ctrl space) is problematic. Box select doesn't select all and clicking vertices doesn't select them at all. It only appears to work correctly in wireframe.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Enter fullscreen viewport (ctrl space) and try to select vertices in all but wireframe mode.
Can't confirm
Hi, thanks for the report. Please check again in recent 3.5-beta build and with factory settings: https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/
Does this happen when you use OpenGL backend?
WIll also look into this one.
At first, I had presumed this was an issue with GPU_framebuffer_read, but this appears not to be the case. Using either of the regular read path (via MTLBlitCommandEncoder) and the custom compute read to buffer fallback, both of these return the same data which happens to be different.
Likely cause then is that the contents of the selection buffer are incorrect in Metal at the time of reading. What appears odd in this scenario is that whether selection works or not depends on the resolution of the window. As not just fullscreen, but dragging the window and attempting selection will cause failures.
The rather odd thing is that the selection offset appears to move as the side bar is dragged. So possible causes are that the objects being rendered to the selection buffer are being shifted.
Curious if this could be a delayed matrix update, or possibly a viewport/scissor state issue.
Fixing this seems important for 3.5. So raising the priority
I believe the fix for this should already have landed: #105529
Though could we confirm against the latest daily build: https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/
Thanks!
Thanks @Michael-Parkin-White-Apple :)
Reference to the report was missing in the PR which did not auto-close the report.
@Macwelshman , can you check again in 3.5-beta build?
Yes this one landed already, so closing this one.
