Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)
Short description of error
There are 2 types of shortcuts in Blender.
The issue is about the second type of shortcuts that happens to tablet users.
The problem is that Blender shortcuts don't work even though the mouse pointer stays on the specific window if the tablet stylus is further from the tablet surface.
This behavior can't be reproduced with mouse on.
Because there's no indication on screen whether the window is activated to register shortcuts, users will be difficult to pinpoint why the shortcuts are not working.
It's also very difficult to utilize shortcuts when users need to press the shortcuts with a stylus in hand or shortcuts that require two hands to operate.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Solution that I can think of is:
To be able to recognize and register the shorcut inputs as long as the mouse pointer stays on the specific window even if the stylus is out of the distance of the tablet surface.
Can confirm (Huion h430p (With disabled drivers, only windows functions are used)). But not sure is that is bug
@PrototypeNM1 hi, is this an intended behavior? keyboard shortcuts should work if Window is active. Looks like a bug to me.
Couldn't recreate this behavior on a Surface device (Windows Ink). Will try on a Wintab device when I'm able to.
The status hasn't progressed much more last few months. I am not sure this is considered a low priority by developers.
The problem means that you can't use any shortcuts that require one of your hands that holds the stylus.
It sounds ridiculous but I tried to hold the stylus with my mouth to press CTRL + I or K for example, it's too difficult to hold the stylus in the range of detection but not touching the screen. Even if it is easy using mouth or something else, do you want your user to do this?
I would argue this is a significant improvement in User Experience, due to more and more people using tablets with the sculpting and painting capability of Blender.
Do you guys know how to bring this issue up to get attention from developers?
Hey guys, I found the solution!
Simply enabling Windows Ink in the setting will waive the problem.
I never thought the option would do something, but it does. and it's amazing Blender has the option.
