Short description of error
1 or 2 years ago, I'm pretty sure I was able to use voice dictation inside of blender to type into any text fields, and I used it regularly to name layers and search for nodes. however, the "Input Method" setting seems to have been removed in a recent version of Blender. It is no longer possible to use alternative input methods, such as voice dictation software, to input text and commands into Blender.

I use Nuance Dragon professional individual dictation with a headset, which is so far the most effective means possible of inputting text that currently exists as of Thu 03.30.23.0403. It's the only voice dictation software that allows you to keep the microphone on for indefinite periods. I have no problem with using voice dictation inside of most other applications like Houdini, so I'm hoping this is a quick fix.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Just open up blender and try to voice dictate into any text field.

Can you specify exactly what option has been removed? I am pretty sure that dictation input was never built in Blender directly. Perhaps this was addon?

yes, but I'm pretty sure I was able to specify the audio input device in the preferences of blender. Chat GPT seems to think it was possible with version 2.8. I'm thinking that if Blender can acknowledge my audio input device then the dictation might work.

It should be pretty easy to know for sure and know exactly what version stopped working. We have all prior versions of blender for download here:
