Crashing and freezing when working on files with assets
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
if I open the demo file cube_diorama.blend the whole system freezes and either crashes or logs out needing to login again.
every blender crash a WindowsServer log is created.
cube_diorama.blend never crashed in previous versions of blender for me.

this demo file and also other files with several assets

Please check whether crash is reproducible with OpenGL backend.
Switching System > GPU Backend to OpenGL from Metal the file now doesn't crash.
But it when it loads it is 100% CPU for a minute.
Also the same with other asset files.
Opening other files without assets do not have 100% CPU usage.
what is causing this high CPU usage on opening files with assets?
