Short description of error
I got this new macbook and downloaded blender, my old computer was a macbook pro 13" 2013, it's a significant update. I notice difference working in adobe so I thought blender would work better too. But blender is not really working and I literally only have 1 very simple SVG imported (text).
Any one know what I can do?
Hi @Emma-DeRoover , looks like it could be that blender isn't using your Radeon graphics card on your machine. Try update drives on your machine as described here and see if it made any difference: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/3.6/troubleshooting/gpu/apple/amd.html . Thanks!
Hello @ChengduLittleA , thanks so much for the fast reply. I've checked the article, by updating drivers it means to update the whole operating system. The computer came with OSX Ventura and I had to go back to Catalina in order to get my cracked programs working, the newer OSX block out piracy and wouldn't let me download them. So updating the computer isn't an option :(
I'm going to leave the system-info attached in case it can help.
Appreciate your help, thanks
From the system info it does seem the GPU doesn't report very much info, although it does show
metal
as the back end, which I guess should be fine, let's wait for some people who's more familiar with this.Any performance improvement with OpenGL backend?
Which operations are resulting in poor performance? (eg. viewport navigation, object selection, etc.)
Sorry for my ignorance, but what is OpenGL backend?
And I noticed poor performance in: moving the object around, remesh modifier loading a lot when applied, sculpting in sculpting mode is almost impossible. This is what I have detected from what I was doing.
Thanks for your help
A graphics API. OpenGL is by default for every platform. Recently Metal support has been added on MacOS for performance improvement: https://code.blender.org/2023/01/introducing-the-blender-metal-viewport/
Please check if there is any difference in results with OpenGL and Metal backend.
Hi, any updates here?
Other data point for testing OpenGL vs Metal would be to run Blender 3.4 and see what performance is like there as well.
Having a reproduction, and additional information would be very useful in helping narrow this down.
Thanks!
