Joining instance to real objects gets original geo to be joined object #109181

Windows 10, Blender 3.5.1

Hi
If I make instance object real by Ctrl+A, and then if I join those real object. I get original object to be joined object too.
This is really problem when you populate so many objects by particle and then make it real and join, the scene gets huge due to original object becomes new joined objects.
Any ideas?

What type of instances you use?
If I make instance object real by Ctrl+A, and then if I join those real object. I get original object to be joined object too. Please, step-by-step, with better naming (1. A to B, 2. B from C, ...).

Hi, thanks.

1 On this test, I made a cube and Alt+D to instanced few cubes,

2 then Ctl+A to make real object from " Make Instance Real"

3 then select those real objects except for original cube, then join.

4 now I get original object becomes joined object.

Hope it makes sense

This expected behavior and not a bug.

  1. Ald+D not create instances. This just a linked object. Instances is Instancing option in object properties, or geometry node instances.
  2. For linked objects, you have to use Object ▸ Relations ▸ Make Single User ▸ Object & Data instead of Make Instance Real.
