Short description of error
First off, it started with me needing to set new preferences when I booted up the program, I had selected to use my previous settings. I went to import an STL to get to work but when I did the program immediately closed. No crash prompt or crash logs were created, just closed. I have tried uninstalling all versions of blender, going to previous ones, and so much more. Without restarting my computer blender just closes. All of this without spikes in my ram, GPU, or memory.
When I delete my user preferences and fully restart my PC I am able to load in a STL file, but if I go to save it the program crashes and the whole issue starts again.
hi, thanks for the report. Do you use third party add-on or something (which require internet access)?
Is any anti-virus software enabled?
Also share crash logs:
Thank you so much for the help, I don't use any addons, this is a fresh version of Blender that I installed. I have Malwarebytes used with windows defender. Small note, when run again after the initial crash it only gives the blender system info file leaving the debug output file blank. I believe this to be because it doesn't give the typical crash error, it simply closes.
here is a video of the process as well.
Thanks. Log file has not captured crash related info.
Is this a single monitor setup? or you've external monitors/tablet connected to primary device?
Does it crash after disabling the antivirus?
it is a dual monitor set up with a tablet connected. I have tried booting blender with both disconnected to no avail. I have also tried booting it while the antivirus disabled with no luck.
Thanks. Has
event viewer
orreliability monitor
captured any relevant information/error message after crash?Looks like primary crash is occurring when pop-up window is called (preferences window, file browser during I/O operations, etc.)
@Jacob-Rose, have you checked if there is any crash-log located in
C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Temp\[project name].crash.txt
?Maybe this log can give us some clue where the problem is.
the reliability monitor had nothing of use, and here is what the event viewer said at the time of crash.
EDIT: upon repeating this it has not appeared again
@mano-wii Nothing appeared in the temp folder. I have an idea that it isn't a crash but it automatically closes out, not making a crash log.
Hi, maybe unrelated but could try following:
Uninstall tablet drivers and clean install GPU drivers. See if that helps.
Less likely a bug in blender since multiple versions are affected.
So interesting update, uninstalled my tablet driver, restarted, updated my GPU, now I am able to able to have it work when first opened. After that it continues to close out on startup like when I tried to open it after it first crashed beforehand.
P.S Still have not redownloaded my tablet driver and about an hour later after another restart it is back to closing after using anything under file
Thanks for the update. Out of ideas now so resetting the status.
UPDATE: I waited for a windows update, uninstalled blender, restarted my computer for the update, and as of now it seems to be good, it may be a false fix like a few times before. But right now it is fixed.
Good to know crash is fixed now, closing.
