New pack_islands operator causing crashes #109529

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.22621-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 535.98
NOTE - I have also tested this on the latest Kubuntu

Broken: version: 3.6.0, branch: blender-v3.6-release, commit date: 2023-06-27 08:08, hash: c7fc78b81ecb
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
The new uv pack_islands operator in Blender 3.6 is causing lots of crashes when called from a script. I make a popular Blender addon that depends on being able to pack UVs. No matter how I try to approach this, the operator will crash consistently after 1 or 2 times being run. Message in the console is a segmentation fault.

It will also crash instantly if you don't provide all the possible parameters. Lots of addons pre-Blender 3.6 will only specify a margin, and that appears to cause a crash.

I primarily develop on Linux but have tested this on Windows too.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open the attached blend file "macro_example.blend". Click the Run Script button a few times. Blender will become unstable and crash. Tested on both Windows and Linux.

@mod_moder you definitely might be right. My only concern is that the other report is talking only about an instant crash. That is part of my report, but my main issue is the crash that happens after calling the operator 1 or 2 times from a Macro.

Maybe it's all the same thing....? I don't know. Happy to accept your decision.

@mod_moder You can probably close this based on the information in #109507. However, I've pointed out in that thread that - although the crash is fixed - the operator seems to have become non-blocking even in Blender 4.0. I asked if I should raise a new bug for that or not. Thanks.
