Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Add Any Curve (example knots)
  2. Add any Mesh (Cube)
  3. Add Modifier Curve on Mesh (Cube) and select "knots"
  4. Add Key Animation along Curve
    5 Update Motion Path (see image)

Hay, can you little more explain what is wrong on image? Better to do that in description of error or in name of report.

Motion Path is a visual representation of a key animation over a different period of time, which is superimposed at the same time. In the figure, the display of the state of the object does not correspond to the shown keys, since the motion Path function does not take into account the modifiers of the object.

For me as a user, motion path - A tool with which I can estimate the position in space.
Try to make a seamless animation with this example, as for example does it in this lesson:

The author performs a bunch of unnecessary actions to cope with the situation, the function of which is performed by Motion Paths.
But it is your right to consider this a bug or imperfection of the tool

@pseudoua : note you could do the same with e.g. a Follow Path constraint (instead of the curve deform modifier)

benefits:

  • you dont get weird deformations on the cube
  • you get motion paths where you want them

I usually use the Follow Path node in such cases. I wonder why I didn't check!? :/
But the motion path is not required in it either, since there is an option Path Animation, in which the animation parameters are adjusted
