Smoke Domain Showing Erratically and Incorrectly #110455

Operating system: Linux-5.19.0-46-generic-x86_64-with-glibc2.35 64 Bits, X11 UI
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 535.54.03

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.6.1, branch: blender-v3.6-release, commit date: 2023-07-17 12:50, hash: 8bda729ef4dc
Worked: I think 3.5.1 was working correctly. I tested on 3.3 and had similar problems.

Short description of error
Smoke domains are showing in the viewport rendered view and separately in renders.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Smoke domains with effects set to occur later in the file are showing as textured erratically throughout the timeline. Attached are 3 images from a render showing the problem and 2 images taken from the submitted test file. The 2 images come from the same frame - one is a screen capture of the viewport and the other is a render.

To replicate simply move through the timeline and the smoke domain will show its texture off and on until the situational, and then will continue to behave erratically.

  • I tried re-baking using "Uni Cache" instead of OpenVDB, but still with the same problem.

I have included a file for testing as an attachment to the main post. It also includes the baked smoke simulation cache. Simply download and follow the instructions in the OP.

N.B. The file was created fresh and elements from my work file were appended. You may need to relink to the cache (separate bug), but it should work.

Here is the link again...can you make sure to download it within a week? It contains the baked smoke simulation so it is 200mb, but the file is simplified from the original. Surely you would want not to have to bake the sim yourself?
