System Information
Operating system:
Graphics card:
Blender Version
Broken: 3.4, 3.6.1, 3.6.2 (I skipped over 3.5, seemed to have too many bugs) Have not
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)
**** Short version of problem ***
** background
Working with 1.6 gb action scene. Rigify using game-engine version & finger controls and NLA actions for programming. Scene is simple walking/pausing along a followed 'autopath' segment with pauses and pose-programmed movement between pauses.
Side Observations: Blender 3.6 cannot be started in Win 11 by opening the .blend file from a window browser. Must be loaded from withing the blender interface.
..... ALSO, the blend icon is no longer assigned to .blend files.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).
*** behavior after error
Fingers roll backwards on one axis into tight ball.
Fingers no longer respond to posing from actions or pose library.
Using pose mode, I can unroll fingers but they are twisted and curled. (fingers respond to manual movement of rig element.
goto Edit from Pose, fingers straighten into 'rest' position and metarig appears aligned.
goto 'rest' mode and fingers are fine.
Note: 3.4 will not open any 3.6 generated file, even ones that are working. 3.4 crashes and even the system log window disappears. Here is the log after initiation of image, before file load.

CREATION OF ERROR Strange behavior.
....a)I have an early version of file that works from 8/18/23. It continues to work fine, saved as backup. I do not recall if I ever performed a render of the 8/18/23 file.
....b) 8/19, I renamed file (save as ...081923.blend) and began further work on file. After working on pose positions in a few actions, the fault occured after I ran a render of the sequence (evee/ffmped-mp4/24fps/ 32 samples/1280-720px)
....c) I took 8/18 (working file) and it ran ok. So I saved it to a new file name (file...081923.blend)
....d) worked on new 8/19 file saved it for night. (did not do a render).
....e) 8/20: I took 8/19 file and 'saved as' ...0820.blend file. it worked ok. I was 'smoothing' some action scenes. Ran a video-editor scan of scenes. Ran a rendering after hours. Closed file.
....f)8/21: Opened ....082023.blend file and fingers were corrupted as shown.
--- went back to ...081923.blend file, FINGERS ARE NOW also corrupted. HOW CAN A FILE THAT I SAVED TO A 2ND FILE NAME AND IT WORKED, NOW ALSO BE CORRUPTED WHILE THE ...081823.BLEND FILE CONTINUES TO WORK.
---- went back to 081823.blend file and it works loads and works okay. I HAVE NOT TRIED A RENDER OF THE 081823 FILE. I WILL DO THIS TONIGHT AFTER i CONFIRM I HAVE A WORKING BACKUP STORED ON THE CLOUD.
**** THOUGHTS ON DUPLICATION OF ERROR.
for the 'unbroken' scene, I created a new, clean scene copy.

Hi, can you report this via: Addons: Rigify: Settings: Report.
Update. I've been using the 08/18/2023.blend file as a 'goto' for a working file.
I told you I would try a render.
I will next, as requested, report the bug using the Rigify: settings: Report.
Thanks for submitting at add-ons repo: blender/blender-addons#104851
I'll close this instance.
