File->Open Recent behaves different from Edit Override Library on Linked Object Materials #112197

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: AMD Radeon & NVidia 1060Ti

Blender Version
Broken: 3.6.2
Worked: Unknown

Short description of error
When using File->Open Recent to change blend files, the overridden materials on a linked object are getting broken/changed. When using Edit Override Library on the linked object, the materials remain consistent.
I am seeing a behaviour difference that breaks the material order when using File->Open Recent versus Edit Override Library. When using File->Open Recent it is changing the order of the materials destructively. This is related to linked objects and overriding their materials.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Default startup, 2 files needed.
When using File->Open Recent the steps are:

  1. Create an object that will be linked. In this case, default cube
  2. Color it with 3 materials (Red, Blue, Green)
  3. Create a new blend file
  4. Link in the cube from step 1
  5. Make it a library override (Object->Library Overrides->Make)
  6. We are going to change material 3
  7. Select Material 3 change to Object Data
  8. Select the default material
  9. Change the color
  10. Save the file
  11. File->Open Recent->(File from step 1)
  12. File->Open Recent->(File from step 10)
  13. Notice that Material 1 and Material 3 are now the same materials

When using Edit Override Library the steps are:

  1. Create an object that will be linked. In this case, default cube
  2. Color it with 3 materials (Red, Blue, Green)
  3. Create a new blend file
  4. Link in the cube from step 1
  5. Make it a library override (Object->Library Overrides->Make)
  6. We are going to change material 3
  7. Select Material 3 change to Object Data
  8. Select the default material
  9. Change the color
  10. Save the file
  11. Item->Edit Linked Library
  12. Item->Return to Original
  13. Notice that the Materials are in the order and color from step 7, no change

This requires several files as the initial set up gets broken. Easiest to follow the steps.
Files are included, they are:

LinkedObjectMaterials.blend -> This is the file with the object that will be linked into the other files
OverrideTest.blend -> File has a link to LinkedObjectMaterials.blend and it has a changed material that was set up and tested using EditOverride Method and the materials are OK
FileOpenRecent.blent -> File has a link to LinkedObjectMaterials.blend and the 3rd material was changed and now both the first and third materials are the same.

Ask if any clarifications are needed. It took me a while to narrow it down to this case.

When I execute step 5, this makes override on object data, and I can't change material color. I think these steps are incomplete. Can you clarify what should I do?
