Short description of error
Users can edit the Essentials assets, at least on Windows, which could allow them to permanently break the upcoming Auto Smooth feature for their version of Blender.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Open the Essentials assets in the Asset Library
Right click on one of the hair assets
Click Open Blend File
Change the name of the asset or clear it
Save the asset file
Refresh the asset browser in the original file

In Blender 3.6, attempting to save the assets file resulted in a permission denied error, which was effective though somewhat cryptic.

(now 3.6.3 also allows to edit essential assets)

Hmm, actually I'm able to edit them in 3.5.1 too
What I observed is:

Essential assets can't be edited if they belong to blender directory extracted from msi installer
Essential assets can be edited if they belong to blender directory extracted from .zip

Not a regression, AFAICS.

For me, file modification was denied due to write permission in C directory: image

Not a bug if your case is similar as described above.

Ok, yes, my case was also from launching from an extracted zip.
