Blender Version
Broken: (example: 2.80,
edbf15d3c0
, master, 2018-11-28, as found on the splash screen)Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)
Short description of error
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).
i was 90% through my build and had forgetten to save although i havent made saving every five minutes my priority anyways i was almost done when it freezes then crashes and all of mt work is now gone this has already happened once but i didnt lose anything so i therefore didnt report it
If you don't save your work, then your work won't be there if the program crashes or you close the program without saving.
Blender does have an autosave feature that's enabled by default, and you can access auto saves by selecting from the top of Blender
File -> Recover -> Auto Save
. Note: These files are saved inTemp
directories and files saved there will be regularly removed by your operating system. So if it's been a while since this happened, then the auto save likely won't be there.I assume you're also making a bug report about Blender crashing and would like it fixed. Sadly without information about what version of Blender you're using, what operating system and possibly computer you're using it on, and the exact steps to reproduce the crash, then the Blender developers will be unable to investigate the issue or fix it.
Blender does save a crash log in some situations. If you can find the crash log for the file you were working on and could upload it here, that could help.
Here's the Blender manual page with information about crashes and crash logs: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/3.6/troubleshooting/crash.html
To farther clarify, (assuming you are on windows), Windows
On a crash, a file is written based on the name of the currently loaded blend-file, so test.blend will create a file called test.crash.txt.
Batch scripts are provided in Blender installation directory which may be run to obtain the Blender debug log and system info text files:
blender_debug_log.cmd is used in most cases.
blender_debug_gpu.cmd and blender_debug_gpu_workaround.cmd log GPU-related errors.
blender_factory_startup.cmd starts Blender with default settings which is recommended for debugging.
If the crash happens in Blender module, stack trace is also written to a file named blender.crash.txt. The path to that file can be found at the end of blender_debug_log.txt file.
Also, you maybe able to recover your work: In the blender file you were working on go files > recover > auto save.
As mentioned before, to be able to triage and evaluate issues with blender, we need to be able to see information about the system and a .blend file if applicable, for ease of debugging and testing.
Thanks.
No activity for more than a week. As per the tracker policy we assume the issue is gone and can be closed.
Thanks again for the report. If the problem persists please open a new report with the required information.
