System Information
Operating system: Linux-6.2.0-33-generic-x86_64-with-glibc2.37 64 Bits, X11 UI
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 535.104.05

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.6.2, branch: blender-v3.6-release, commit date: 2023-08-16 16:43, hash: e53e55951e7a
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
In the File Output node in the compositor, when the color management setting is set to "Override" and a different color space is set, the color space remains as whatever it is set for the scene.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Open attached .blend file
  • Render animation (It only has 1 frame. Images will be saved automatically).
  • In the Image Editor, check both images (the one in result and the one in result/File Output). Note that they are in the Linear Rec.709 color space. Seems to be correct.
  • In both Output settings (in File Output and in Properties) change Color Management to Override and in both choose the ACEScg option for example.
  • Render animation again.
  • Reload both images.

Note that only the image in result that had the color space overridden.
It works with the single layer EXR.

I can confirm.
But I'm not familiar enough to confirm if it's a bug.

Reminds of #97317: EXR output color options do not work (and #105208)

I ran into similar issue as well. Works with EXR, but when using Fileout node with OpenEXR Multilayer, it fails to apply/ overwrite any colors pace that I am using.

To reproduce the issue,

First, Install ACES color space by following the tutorial by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axc2NnVSvmo

Second, Set the Blender's Render Color Management to ACES, View Transform to sRGB

Third, Create a Composition node containing multiple passes, and attach File Output node.

Forth, Set the File format to Open EXR Multilayer with DWAA codec. Set the colormanagement to either Override or Follow Scene

Fifth, Render, and check the color space of the exported file by comparing to regular Open EXR image.
