Voala
just want to say, I love blender and the people behind it all the same!
I just tried those steps on a MacBook Air M1 with macOS 14 Sonoma and did not run into that crash... But I did try that with the latest Alpha version of Blender 4.0.0, could you try that as well...?
And you tried Blender 3.6.0, could you also try with the latest official stable release, 3.6.4...?
Hi, I tried it on 3.6.4 LTS, 4.0 Beta and 4.1 Alpha, crashed every time.
I am using a Macbook Pro 14' with an M1Pro, maybe it has something to do with that, or maybe something specific to my machine.
Just for clarification, I'm not using any crazy rendering addons.
I have dabbled in other crazy stuff on my computer, though that shouldn't effect blender.
And the crash isn't because of heavy work load or something like that, it just instantly closes.
Out of posterity, could you try selecting "Load Factory Settings" and then try your steps again.
Also, could you move the current preference files of Blender elsewhere (this with Blender closed) by moving all your numbered directories from
~/Library/Application Support/Blender/
For example to your desktop...? The tilde character refers to your own home directory.
Running into similar issues on Intel iMac. 14.0 installed and all Blender versions lagging heavily; freezing windows when using GPU+CPU rendering.
Filed the issue here: #112976
I am also not able to replicate the problem.
@Samuel-19, be sure to describe exactly which GPU rendering settings you set in the settings (Mixed CPU+GPU? Any Kernel Optimization?)
Please also try the latest daily build: https://builder.blender.org/download/
I tried a few things, and MetalRT seems to be the issue, as far as I can tell. (Yes I know it is labled experimental, I just totally forgot I had it on)
Thanks for the help, I should probably close this issue, since there are plenty of reports for metalRT issues, right?
