noticeable viewport jumps when using the mouse depth option (use_mouse_depth_navigate)

Hi, thanks for the report. Unable to confirm locally in 4.0-beta
Could it be due to workbench rewrite? Does this happen in other shading modes? (material preview/render)

Also try factory settings: File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings

looks like lag is there only on a wireframe or in solid shading not happening in the material preview and only if the Depth option is on.

It is subtle, happening only when the middle mouse is pressed and released really fast. Though noticeable enough to be annoying. It may be easier to notice it when zooming to obj with depth on and off by holding ctrl and releasing the MMB as fast as possible.

The Depth buffer has to be redrawn in these cases, which can be a bit slow for some GPUs.

As far as I know, nothing changed in 3.6 to 4.0 that justifies this slowness.

Can you double check to confirm that the problem is really not seen in 3.6?

This indicates that the problem is in the refactoring of the engines.

@pragma37, as AutoDepth calls the DRW_draw_depth_loop(...) that initializes some separate engines, do you think this could somehow remove some texture cache used in Workbench (and Overlay) and slow things down?

It is not there for an older version. 3.6 feels super smooth in comparison with 4.0
