Set Custom Property to Non-animatable (toggle) #113506

Hi guys,

During production we sometimes encounter animated properties in the rig that shouldn't be animated (custom properties and drivers). Such parameters like:

  • Preview Resolution of the character
  • Shading Preview of the character
  • Other render settings

To avoid repetitive tasks it is in everyone's best interest to add a toggle to parameters that can be set, but not animated. Lighting and rendering departments might have an easier time adjusting settings. This is only the case if we override libraries, but I can see this being useful to avoid user error in general, and to create more control by the rigger/individual setting up custom properties.

I have no technical knowledge on how to do this myself or if this is feasible in Blender right now. Please let me know if this sounds reasonable.

Thanks!

Beau Gerbrands

I believe this should be posted on RightClickSelect (another official blender community website). Tasks on here are for developers to directly work on, or if agreed upon with the relevant module (e.g. Animation & Rigging).

This is on my radar for the keyframing rework in combination with not allowing to keyframe locked properties
#113278: Anim: Keyframing Rework

Usually in Blender we try to avoid negative labels though. It is usually much simpler to understand if you call it "keyable" and enabled it by default.

Along with that as mentioned before, we might also want custom properties to be locked. But nobody came to me yet explicitly saying they absolutely need it.

Hey Christoph,

It does sound simpler and more friendly, I prefer this over my proposal.

Thanks for letting me know.

Cheers,
Beau
