Scale issue with parts, un-resetable? #113699

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19045-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 531.26

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.1.0 Alpha, branch: main, commit date: 2023-10-11 15:26, hash: e00bd55576b0
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Parts in scene unable to have scale reset

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[Please describe the exact steps needed to reproduce the issue]

  1. Import existing glTF scene with animations and graphics pre-mapped
  2. Update, enhance, fix graphics, etc
  3. Export glTF scene to game
  4. Animation issues show on some parts, not all. Parts refuse to animate in game, but work fine in Blender
  5. Parts cannot be cleared or repaired on animations in Blender. Work arounds must be carried out, like animating a small cube and linking the un-animating part to that.

I and others think these are scaling issues. Oddly, some parts will not reset the scale. They work fine in Blender. In this game, some of the parts will not animate if they have a scale. In Blender, these show zero scale issues. Sometimes making a dummy (Empty node) and linking the part to that fixes it. For me, on this project I am doing, not even that is working.

Have you all perhaps been running into this? In the past, in Blender 3.2, I could reset the scale, and it was done, fixed. A friend using 3.3 cant reset his scale on some parts and he has multiple parts with this issue. I was stuck trying to get 2 parts to animate all week. 7 days down time. Another two people have strange issues also with glTF parts imported to Blender with some parts retaining odd settings such as scale, and scale not being resettable.

Can this possibly be related to animations? Can animations infect scale in parts? Each of these incidences are with parts imported in from glTF format to Blender, pre-animated, and the animations seem to malfunction on 'exported' parts, that are also exported as glTF. No Bones, just animated parts.

If none of you are hearing of this issue, then never mind. But a few of us are having this problem.

Kind regards,

Bill

Hi, thanks for the report. More information would be useful:

  • In which software you're importing the gltf file?
  • Could it be due to export setting (of blender gltf) or import setting of the other software?
  • Any chance you can share example .blend file with us?

Hello Pratik,

My apologies for not getting back to you sooner.

To add to the note, I found yesterday that when attempting to add a new Empty to the scene I am working on (same one) that an animation cannot be added to it. Fresh Empty, no scale, not attached to anything in the scene, no parent. A yellow flag on the bottom tool bar says 'Keying set failed to insert any key frames'. So it seems something is blocking animations from being applied. I am updated to Oct 16th Blender 4.1 build. I might update today to see if the issue goes away.

I can send a link to the scene. Do you need the textures also?

I use a special glTF exporter that exports the package for use in Microsoft Flight Simulator 'MSFS' Edition. The prototype exporter has been working excellent so far. I can send that as well.

Let me know.

Kind regards,

Bill

@PratikPB2123 ,

My friend in this field found the issue.... Key Sets had been set/activated and it turns off the ability to add animations in the scene. Deleting 'animation sets' restored being able to animate parts.

We can erase this issue. Its solved. I thought the these two builds may have been bugged. My humble apologies.
