System Information
Operating system: Linux-5.15.0-88-generic-x86_64-with-glibc2.35 64 Bits
Graphics card: Mesa Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 (SKL GT2) Intel 4.6 (Core Profile) Mesa 23.0.4-0ubuntu1~22.04.1

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.2.2, branch: master, commit date: 2022-08-02 18:15, hash: rBbcfdb14560e7
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
[Please fill out a short description of the error here]
When using the Bool Tool to combine 2 objects, or even to subtract an object from another the final mesh is completely ruined. It seems Blender has a difficult time keeping a clean topology when using the built-in Bool tool. Even if using an addon tool like Boxcutter/Hard Ops. Blender will completely destroy the topology of the mesh.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[Please describe the exact steps needed to reproduce the issue]
The attached .blend file is just a super quick example. All I did was add a 20mm circle with 64 vertices. Then, in edit mode, extruded it to 10mm in the Z. I then added another circle, with 24 vertices and extruded it down 5mm from the top edge. I then used the Bool Tool to combine the 2 objects. All the inner vertices from the small over-laping cylinder are still there, even after applying the modifier. This is just with 2 very basic cylinders. I'm modeling complex objects and having a heck of time with them.
It seems Blender is veering away from the 3D print support. Now import STL states it's (experimental) when the older versions didn't. This is all I use Blender for, modeling for 3D printing. I'm spending days just going back and cleaning my models, one vertex at a time, just so the topology is descent enough to print without issues.
I use the 3D Print addon to help clean things up but that doesn't always work, neither does the "Make Manifold." As soon as I import the model into a slicer it spots the issues right away. Some slicers are better at fixing the models but not all. Sometimes the fixes ruin the integrity of the model's shape. In fact, many times I'll export the model as an STL just so I can import it using an older version of Blender, then use the "Make Manifold" in that version so the slicer will except it.

I know, I should just bite the bullet and learn a CAD program but I've been using Blender since 2005 and there is nothing like organic modeling in any CAD program I've tried. Although, the other CAD programs are far superior at keeping the topology clean and booleans function nearly perfect. But it's not Blender.

[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]
It's not based on the default setup. I've made changes to the default start-up.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

  1. Hi, please, send this report ro Add-on repo (Preferences -> Add-on's -> Bool Tool -> Report Bug button).
  2. Please, make sure you describe only bug related things. Its good, but not that you want to fix i guess.
  3. Make sure you use latest blender versions from before send report: https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/
