Short description of error
Using VDM brushes is causing problems for the opposite side of the mesh, front faces only not working

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error - see video

  • Open Sculpting template
  • Activate VDM Brush Baker addon
  • Make a brush
  • Enable Front Faces Only brush setting
  • Sculpt quad sphere with VDM brush

Can reproduce. The effect of backface being deformed seems intentional to me, but front faces setting with VDM bruch seems to be broken.

Imho opinion I, I think the "Front Faces Only" setting should be removed from Sculpt Mode.
The "View Normal" auto-masking does the same thing but with more options.
There's no point in fixing this.

The other modes and editors that don't support auto-masking yet still need "Front Faces Only" for now, but they also don't use VDM textures ;)

I agree and can we make the "view normal" brush setting turned on by default as I cant see any reason why anyone would not want it turned on

Agreed. At least for anchored brushes that use textures.

But for this report the issue remains the "Front Faces Only". Fix it or remove it.
I'll leave that open for once we tackle this report.
