Blender 4.0 crashing on startup using Intel HD 4400 #114961

Operating system: Windows 10 Home 22H2, Version 19045.2965
Graphics card: Intel HD 4400, Driver Version: 20.19.15.5171

Brief:
Starting Blender using blender.exe does not reach the splash screen, and crashes to desktop after showing the Blender window title bar and blank workspace only.

Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

Double click on blender.exe

Further info:
Works fine with Intel HD 5500, using the same iGPU driver versions. Apparently they use the same driver installation file from Intel. Upon further exploration the Intel HD 4400 supports OpenGL 4.3, and the Intel HD 5500 supports OpenGL 4.4
As per the Blender 4.0 release notes page, Intel HD 4000, support is dropped due to technical issues. Initially I thought, maybe it meant the Intel HD 4000 series (including 4200, 4400, 4600), but then I notice that minimum OpenGL support still includes OpenGL 4.3 which is supported by the Intel HD 4400 iGPU.

If mentioning "Intel HD 4000 series" includes:

Haswell: HD 4200, HD 4400, and HD 4600, HD 5000, Iris 5100, Iris Pro 5200

I would change the release notes to specify that. Currently the release notes only mention Intel HD 4000, which is Ivy Bridge not Haswell.

This would alleviate the confusion.

Well, minimum requirement of intel iGPU is already bumped to Broadwell architecture: https://www.blender.org/download/requirements/
