Mouse cursor move to center when adjusting vaules on WIN32 #115386

System Information
Operating system: Windows 11
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080

Blender Version
Broken: 3.4 and later
Worked: 3.3 and earlier
Likely caused by 9fd6dae793

Mouse cursor snaps to center while using Window 11 magnifier when adjusting values. ( I have low vision so I use window 11's build in magnifier to help me see small details) This is preventing me from viewing my changes. So I had to enter the values manually.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Keep Blender window active
  • Start + to use magnifier
  • In blender, drag UI number property
3.3 4.1

Hi, this has been fixed in 4.0 by: 1d141e721c
Please verify again in recent 4.0.2 build: https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/
Closing. Feel free to reopen/comment if bug persists in 4.0.2

Thank you but the issue still persists. The only parts that are fixed are the color parameter, rotation, scale, and Dimensions in the sidebar. The rest still snap the mouse pointer to the center.

I can still see the issue, indeed.

Yes, can confirm with magnifier. cc @Harley

Can still redo this.

In case steps are unclear 😅: Keep blender window active. Start + to use magnifier -> In blender, drag UI number property

The steps, expected and resulting behavior are still a bit unclear...

I have Blender active, I press Win + "+" and the magnifier zooms in. Now everything is larger and my monitors contain just a subset of the Blender app. Moving my mouse anywhere near the edges causes everything to scroll into view.

When changing numerical values by dragging I never have that old behavior of the mouse cursor jumping out of the input as I drag. The mouse cursor remains hidden and doesn't suddenly become visible and appear elsewhere. This is the sort of thing that the referenced changes were addressing. Is this the behavior you are seeing?

The magnifier does seem to scroll the active area into view on its own sometimes though. Like I drag on an input at the top-right and the app might move within the visible view so that the input moves. But this seems only related to the behavior of this magnifier app where you can move the view by moving your mouse near the edges. On my computer just moving to within 10% of the top or about 20% from the right or left edge will cause it to move.

To check beyond the "likely caused by" referenced in the first comment I tried all this with Blender 2.8 and the behavior looks identical.

So yes, the steps and expected behavior are unclear. The original description is just "Mouse cursor snaps to center" and I'm not seeing that. Nor does your instructions get me anything close to what dupoxy's video is showing.

Uploaded videos. Actually this does happen in 3.3 as well but possibly when cursor hits the screen/window border. In 3.4 and recent versions behavior issue happens instantly.

Still not convince this has anything that we can fix.

but possibly when cursor hits the screen/window border

The scrolling occurs far from the actual window border...

I disconnect my extra monitors so I am just using one. I launch Notepad and maximize it. Then Win + "+" to zoom in.

I am now looking at a small subset of the Notepad window. It will automatically scroll as my mouse approaches any window edge. However, this is not symmetrical. On my 1920x1200 screen it will scroll up if my mouse enters the top 60 pixels or so. The same for the bottom. But it will scroll left if I enter the left 30 pixels. But will scroll right if I enter the right 180 pixels.

Again, this is how it works in all applications, not just Blender, demonstrated above with Notepad. This is exactly the area of the screen being demonstrated here. It auto-scrolls when your mouse enters the right 180 pixels, and this is exactly where the above demonstrations are showing this behavior.

Thanks. If this is not a bug in Blender then we can close the report.
But results in Blender has changed from 3.4 release so I decided to raised the priority.

This really just looks like expected behavior of Magnifier, since it works like this in all other apps.

With Blender I find that it might work better with a change of settings:

  • Win + "U" to bring up Accessibility
  • Select "Magnifier" from the list
  • Click on the "View" section
  • Change "Keep the mouse pointer" to "Centered on the screen"

to "Centered on the screen"

Yes, think this is better solution. @Andrew-Prouty , can you check as well?
Closing since the behavior is expected with magnifier tool.

Thanks @Harley 🙏
