Can confirm this. Same operation system. GPU NVIDIA 3090 rtx.

I'm not able to repro this on Win11 or Win10. Does this occur if you run the blender_factory_startup.cmd script located in the installation directory right next to blender.exe ?

it doesn't happing with blender factory settings, but as soon as you link some assets files to the asset browser, it starts.
I have very large asset files, they a perfectly working in 3.6. It's not an addon it's the asset browser in 4.1.

If this is related to asset libraries then it is probably #115372. Asset libraries are loaded in order to search for Node Tools in 4.0 onwards.

@Jacek-P are you also using large asset libraries by chance?

For both of you, how long does it take for the load to subside? 1 minute? 10 minutes? Does it ever stop?

Hey, it might be this. I have like 10 file paths to various assets from couple plugins. As Peter mentioned I actually have that problem in 3.6, sometimes when I launch it my RAM is loading gigabytes of stuff and I didn't know what it might be.

If this is the problem in version 4 it works opposite. Blender 4 starts okay, but when switching to Edit mode CPU just goes crazy but nothing loads into RAM.

I've closed this topic by mistake... .

Might be some add-on is responsible here. Could you investigate further and identify the culprit in both 3.6 - 4.0

i'm quite sure it's not an addon. Tested it with every addon i have (a lot!)
Blender 4.0 with factory settings and 1 large asset library = 100% CPU usage in Edit Mode

If asset library is solely responsible then I would relate this reported problem with #115372 / #114864

Seem to be having a similar issue but with very different hardware. Trying to switch to edit mode and interact with the object at all spikes the CPU and freezes the program (see first screenshot below, there are only 2 objects in the scene and the background should be the default dark gray not white). Can only quit the program via the command line. Also running 4.01 but for mac (intel). Had no issues with 3.6.

System Information
Operating system: MacOS Ventura 13.2.1
CPU: 2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
(yes I know not ideal but it has worked well enough for my purposes up until now)

Texturing, geo nodes, object mode, rendering, and compositing all work fine. I don't have a large asset library and it's not an addon. I've also noticed that small artifacts are popping up on meshes (both default and modified) in solid view (2nd screenshot). They appear no matter what and are unrelated to any topology issues.

Could be a completely separate issue but as far as I can tell I should be able to run Blender and besides one reddit post this is the only discussion 4.0 edit mode issues I've found.

@Delia-M , best to report this separately in such case.

I wish I had read @Peter-Olschinsky comment before turning off all the add-ons, too bad I didn't make a copy of my config.
Anyway, I wanted to confirm what Peter found. Same here: as soon as I add all my asset browsers paths back, I get the same issue in edit mode.
