Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT (radeonsi, navi32, LLVM 17.0.6, DRM 3.54, 6.6.6-arch1-1) AMD 4.6 (Core Profile) Mesa 23.3.0 (git-1fbdd37d4c)

Broken: version: 4.0.2, branch: blender-v4.0-release, commit date: 2023-12-05 07:41, hash: 9be62e85b727
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Starting a few weeks ago blender won't see my GPU. On 3.x versions it will crash when I go to edit > properties > system. On 4.x it runs without crashing but doesn't see a GPU. GPU drivers, rocm/hip, kernel and linux are all up to date.

Currently on 4.0.2 when I select Edit > Properties > System then select the tab for HIP no GPU appears. My gpu still works fine in Stable Diffusion, Upscayl, hashcat as well as general use and gaming.

Sorry, still gathering some info. Tried stable release 3.3.14, 3.6.7 as well as 4.0.3 and get the same thing in every case. Running blender from the terminal doesn't report any errors on crashing.

Hi, thanks for the report. Can you downgrade to older kernel (6.5.6)? it may resolves the problem. see: #115670 (comment)

First, sorry.... I think I kept searching "radeon" instead of "amd" and not finding much.

Anyway, downgrading doesn't fix the problem for 4.x but appears to for 3.3.14. I was on 6.6.6 and am now downgraded to 6.5.6. 4.02 was working previously on the latest kernel so I'm not sure what happened but this works for now, I don't need 4.x. Thank you.

Can you try proprietary drivers?

Some system side change would have caused it then. Hard to guess the culprit in such case.

Hi, any updates? amdgpu-install --usecase=hip / amdgpu-install -y may help in finding the GPU.
Downgrading kernel version may also help since some bugs have been observed there #115670
