Letter "J" disappears from node name of "Join" nodes in Geometry Nodes #116690

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19045-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 546.01

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.0.2, branch: blender-v4.0-release, commit date: 2023-12-05 07:41, hash: 9be62e85b727
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
When scolling in on a node for joining things, e.g. Join String, Join Geometry, the letter "J" disappears from the display name. While it is normal for names to get abbreviated, when the space for their display is limited, when zooming the space for the letters of nodes scales proportionally to the text. Therefore there shouldn't be a difference in the name display. Not a big issue, but I think you'll rather wanna know about small things like this. Thanks for your time and happy new year

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Create a Geometry Nodes Node tree for any object > Add a node contraining "Join" in its name > Scroll in and out to see the letter disappearing

@Harley Hi, can you check if this is possible to backport #115938 ?

@Pitched123

Is this when using a UI font that is different from the default? As in if you go to Edit / Preferences / Interface / Text Rendering do you have something in "Interface Font" or is it blank? It doesn't matter if you do or not, but I need to know in confirming this issue.

@mod_moder

Yes, I can add that to the backport list but would rather first confirm the font used here just to make sure this isn't something else.

Hi there,
I can confirm the issue. It happened in a UI list in an add-on. The leading 'J' was missing from all names in the list. I didn't look in other regions, so I am not sure if this was all over the interface or just in the one panel/list. A restart fixed it.

I am using Roboto Medium.

I am using Roboto Medium.

Roboto Medium has the same issue as ""Segoe UI" in that the lowercase "j" has a stroke that goes to the left of the left-side bearing:

So it probably makes sense to add #115938 to the backport list

Okay, will close this report then.

This problem does not exist in main (from 4.1) and I have added a PR to the list of possible candidates for corrective release for 4.0. So will be in a 4.04 if we release one.
