Short description of error
Viewport compositor depth support does not work when overlay is entirely disabled.
This happens with EEVEE Next and Cycles, but not with EEVEE legacy.
As you can see in case of Cycles, depth output does not update when overlay is disabled. In EEVEE Next depth outputs nothing (black) when overlay is disabled.
Test file: viewport_compositor_depth_delay.blend
Render Passes are not supported in the Viewport Compositor which uses the Depth buffer available in the viewport.
This depth is not the same as the Cycles depth pass and is not updated in Cycles without Overlay.
But showing this not updated depth is not ideal either. So confirming the bug.

(Having a way to know if the viewport's depth buffer is updated would be useful for ideas like: !113026: "Do not recalculate the depth buffer for 'Auto Depth'")
It is not really an officially supported feature. It is just something I enabled for users to play with while we add passes support. So I am not interested in maintaining it as a workaround.
