Editing UV maps on mesh with multiple UV maps crashes blender #117315

System Information
Operating system: macOS-14.2.1-arm64-arm-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: Metal API Apple M1 Ultra 1.2

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.0.3 Release Candidate, branch: blender-v4.0-release, commit date: 2024-01-09 17:29, hash: 88559c00cd36 -- also tried with Blender 4.0.2 from official Blender site and the 4.1 alpha. Same behaviors -- random crashes while editing UV maps.
Worked: None.

Short description of error
I am working on a simple mesh with four UV maps. When I try moving the vertices around, they will start to disappear after I am done moving them, then reappear when I click. Sometimes the UV map will turn into garbage with vertices/lines everywhere, but when I click on the map, it will snap back to normal. Once it reaches this point, Blender will likely crash in the next few minutes of work but it not predictable.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[Please describe the exact steps needed to reproduce the issue]
I have attached my test blend file. I am trying to create a procedural texture by using different UV maps feeding into the shader for the same mesh. Basically a set of three overlapping circular shapes, each driven by a different UV map on the same mesh. By adjusting the UV maps individually, I can create different patterns/overlaps per mesh face. So this takes a lot of UV face editing.

In my main blender file, I have been using the Yank by selection frequently on UV maps to break them up into sections. The crash just happens randomly while I am editing/moving the UV vertices.

I am including the crash report as well.

I first assumed it was a problem with my local build, but the official 4.0.2 build on the Blender.org download page also exhibited this behavior as well as the 4.1.0 alpha daily.

[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

Thank you.
