System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.22631-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 546.01

Blender Version
Broken: 4.2 5d3d233784bac77e60a5515850459060fa8ff9b5

Short description of error
Retiming freeze frame does not work for audio strips. It still plays the audio between freeze region. Placing playhead over freeze region the starting the playback will start the audio from start (instead of being silent)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Open default VSE file
  • Add audio strip
  • Move playhead to some frame inside the audio strip.
  • In sequencer do strip->retiming->add freeze frame
  1. Press play. Notice that despite the timing being 0%, I still hear a very slowed down version of the audio (to be fair it's not trivial to "freeze frame" audio)
  2. if you move the current frame to inside the frozen time section of the audio strip, and start playback, the audio is not slowed down at all, but will "jump" when it hits the next retiming key.
  3. With the audio strip selected, do strip->retiming->reset retiming. Press play. audio strip still sounds retimed.

Workarounds tried:

  1. Confirm that doing a View->Refresh All does not fix the problem.
  2. Confirm that deleting the audio strip and then undoing the deletion DOES fix the problem.

I guess, that this is limitation and not super greaat design. Ideally, it should completely stop the audio playback. I think, that I would need to handle this internally by making 2 sequence entries in audaspace.

Confirm that deleting the audio strip and then undoing the deletion DOES fix the problem.

Not quite sure how exactly this fixes the issue - the sound is playing here after deleting strip and undo. But if it works somehow for you, I guess this is coincidence.
