System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.22631-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: Radeon RX550/550 Series ATI Technologies Inc. 4.6.0 Core Profile Context 24.1.1.231127

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.0.2, branch: blender-v4.0-release, commit date: 2023-12-05 07:41, hash: 9be62e85b727
Worked: no working versions

Short description of error
When I import through addon "Blender Source Tools" a model with a skeleton and select a spherical skeleton, the blender (along with GPU) crashes from a certain camera rotation distance. This doesn’t happen when I select the arrow skeleton, go to edit mode or delete it altogether. I informed the addon developer, but he said it was a blender problem. Previously, I already opened it 1 time, but successfully.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Import .smd model with skeleton -> rotate the camera -> profit

Hi @pandatick, thank you for the report. However the "Blender Source Tools" addon is not maintained by Blender. I would suggest reporting this issue to the original author of the addon.

Could you please provide steps to reproduce it without using the addon? So we can proceed with investigating the issue.

Hello, @mano-wii, I see that the addon has nothing to do with this. One armature of 90 bones is enough to cause this.

I’ll add that the crash speed apparently depends on the number of bones

@pandatick, could you provide a .blend file that demonstrates the problem? This will allow us to reproduce and debug the crash you are experiencing.

I cannot reproduce this with either the latest stable or current development versions of Blender:

Please try the latest daily build: https://builder.blender.org/download/

Go to File → Defaults → Load Factory Settings and then load your file to see if you still can reproduce this issue.

If the problem persists, please give us more clear instructions on how to reproduce it from scratch.

I've tried all versions (from 2.92 to 4.2), factory reset, reinstalling blender, even reinstalling the OS, but it still crashes.
As I understand it, this is all due to the skeleton spheres in object mode and the more of them, the faster the program crashes. About 90 spheres are needed for the blender to crash instantly.
I checked version 2.80 and everything works fine there, except for microfreezes.

Hi, could you attach crash logs?: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/troubleshooting/crash.html#windows

No crash log is created. The blender completely stops functioning, even visually, but does not close.
