Blender Crashes #119249

System Information
Operating system: Windows 11
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660

Blender Version
Broken: 4.02 both from website and from steam

Short description of error
I am doing retopology of hand and my Blender crashes in random times. From my research I figured that's because of running out of memory, and even though I cleaned up my pc, reduced undo steps, changed memory cache limit, nothing helped. I reinstalled Blender from Steam and from the website, it still crashes. I worked on different projects, but haven't had any crashes like that.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
I will attach both crash file and the project file. I'm following a tutorial from Bran Sculpts and trying to create a topology for hand, but then Blender just crashes.

Hi, thanks for report, do you still get the crash if change value of this option?

Hi and yes, it crashed again. But you gave me an idea to turn off the subdivision for now, maybe that's the problem.

Hi, thanks for the report. May not be related to blender since crash occurred in nKERNELBASE.dll.
Can you share system info: Help > Save System Info
Also check event viewer or reliability monitor for error after crash.

But you gave me an idea to turn off the subdivision for now, maybe that's the problem.

So turning off GPU Subdivision is preventing the crash?

Hi, thanks for help! When I was working with the hand I had to turn off subdivision, and it stopped crashing. Since then I've been working in blender a lot and this never happened again. Still not sure what was the cause for the crash. I can share system info later today

Thanks. Yes, system info will help.

Maybe we can close the report if crash is not happening anymore?

Also, what CPU you've? Did you overclock it by any chance?

Thanks. Given that crash is happening with NVIDIA GPU and GPU Subdivision, I suspect this is same as #100620, closing.

From my research I figured that's because of running out of memory, and even though I cleaned up my pc, reduced undo steps, changed memory cache limit, nothing helped

If in doubt whether crash is due to insufficient memory, I would suggest to monitor memory usage in task manager during the crash.
