Hi, thanks for report, can you check 4.1?

Hi, thanks for report, can you check 4.1?

I'd love to but 4.1 doesn't like me. Took about 3 minutes to launch. Then I ask to use my settings for 4.0 and it has been a few minutes and it's seems jammed. 4.0 is also very long to open. Everybody I know tells me the same thing. So if you could try 4.1 on your side it would be appreciated. Thanks

I answered too fast. I crashed after a few frames

I can confirm crash in 4.0, but no one 4.1 or 4.2 does not crash for me. Can you add hash of 4.1 version what you use? (thing like 4.0.2, branch: blender-v4.0-release, commit date: 2023-12-05 07:41, hash: 9be62e85b727 in your report that is generated automatically in report template by blender).

Another data point: I rendered the whole sequence in latest main (4.2) and it didn't crash.

Crash also reproduced in 4.02, but 4.1 rendered the whole sequence here...

I've tried 4.1 again and it's seem ok this time. Maybe it was something else before when it crashed.

I thought the problem could be because we are using an addon to have geo node hair with dynamics.

Could you check without the Addon then?

Will put this on Needs Information from User for now (unless we have a clear sign that this is still n issue in 4.1 onwards -- and without Addons)

I will try in a few hours. I was trying to install 4.1 on my laptop too and got an error message that the path was too long. I'm sure this doesn't help ;-)

So turns out it's the motion blur that makes 4.0 crash when rendering a sequence.

But does this mean 4.1 is fine? Report could be closed?

Release candidate was OK but looks like everything broke for the official release. I need more testing. Working on it now.

So 4.1 lets me render a sequence but the hair completely go crazy. They are OK in the viewport in cycles but as soon as I do Render Image or Render Animation I get completely broken results.

If someone could take a look at this as an emergency it would be appreciated because I need to render 35 shots for the BCON LA Conference on the 20th and I don't want to have to present it like that. :-)

Found the issue. It's the subdivision on the body. It's set to 1 for the viewport but 2 for rendering. When I set it to 1 it works. Case closed.
