System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19045-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 551.76

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.1.0 Release Candidate, branch: blender-v4.1-release, commit date: 2024-03-22 19:59, hash: 64bfe491645f
Worked: 3.6.5, but that might just be because the "Points to Curves" node doesn't exist there

With certain node setups, a curve with a Geometry Nodes modifier remains invisible in Edit Mode even though "Display modifier in Edit Mode" is unchecked.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Open the attached .blend file in Blender 4.0.2, 4.1.0, or the 4.2.0 alpha (8b514bccd162).
  • Note that the scene contains a single Curve object in Edit Mode, and that the 3D viewport does not show its splines.
  • Uncheck "Display modifier in Edit Mode". At this point, we'd expect to see the original curve unaffected by the modifier. However, we don't. In fact, we don't even see the control points, which are normally always visible.
  • Delete the modifier entirely. Only now do the splines and control points become visible.

Can confirm the regression.
Essentially the viewer node is not disabled with Modifier settings since 4.0

While modifier is there you can see result of viewer, not sure if this is bug.

The fact that a viewer hides edit mode overlays is duplicate of #101443 it seems
The fact that turning OFF "Display modifier in viewport" used to disable viewers in 3.6 but not anymore since 4.0 has me bisecting when this changed

reported this separately, see #120970

So this will now make the original reported issue a duplicate of #101443 (and the additionally added issue by @Bradley_G was reported also). Please subscribe in those issues if you want further updates, will close this report.
