Short description of error
[Not possible to export "empty hair" geo node setup, it consist of the curves being extruded on x to make a plane and mapping the "hair card" on it]
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
@kristians.dzenis Hi! Geometry nodes geometries are dynamically generated, thus can't be exported. You can apply all modifiers by using
Object -> Convert -> Mesh
then you can export this object to whatever format you wanted.Closing this since this is not a bug, but feel free to comment.
Sorry how is this not a bug if all modifiers are applied on export? Geometry nodes are a modifier.
Hi, thanks for the report. If I understand correctly, modifier is not being applied in your case while exporting because the geometry returned by GN is of type mesh which didn't match with the actual Curve type. Hence applying modifier from fbx panel failed.
As Yiming pointed, convert first the hair object itself to mesh then export it.
I don't think this is a bug, closing.
I believe the problem here is the second geometry modifier will change geometry type and can't be applied (at least from the UI).
Dug a little bit, the
BLENDER_OTHER_OBJECT_TYPES
variable should also includeCURVES
(different than legacyCURVE
), this way it should evaluate the modifiers correctly upon export. Also this should probably be submitted to https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender-addons
Edit: Including
CURVES
would lead to an error when evaluating:bpy.data.meshes.new_from_object
tells me there's no geometry data.cc @Mysteryem
Thank you for looking in to this I really appreciate it and I feel like this Hair setup with Geo nodes will be really strong in future (after some kinks are ironed out) esspectially being able to generate hair cards on the strands (for Characters and Environments)
