System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19045-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 551.76

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.2.0 Alpha, branch: main, commit date: 2024-03-23 00:24, hash: 8b514bccd162
Worked: (unknown)

Short description of error
Regardless of which tool I have selected in the Video Sequencer's "Preview" mode - be it Tweak, Select Box, Move, Rotate, Scale, or Transform - dragging the mouse always acts like I have the Tweak tool selected. The other tools' gizmos show up and get hilighted when hovering over them, but other than that, it's like they don't exist.

This happens regardless of the "Drag" setting in Sidebar -> Tool -> Active Tool.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Open default scene. Switch viewport to VSE
  • Add some image or movie as a strip by dragging and dropping it from e.g. Windows Explorer onto the timeline.
  • Switch to Preview mode.
  • Switch to the Select Box tool and try to drag a selection rectangle. Depending on your current selection, either nothing happens or you end up moving the image.
  • Switch to the Move tool, select the image, and try to move the image along one axis using the gizmo. The gizmo gets ignored; you can still move the image freely.
  • Switch to the Rotate tool and try to use the gizmo. The image gets moved instead.
  • Same for the Scale and Transform tools.

Hi, thanks for the report. Unable to confirm in current main. Could you try recent 4.2 build?: https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/

It happens in the latest 4.2.0 too, and in any other Blender version I tested (going back all the way to 3.0). However, I think I found out why it worked for me before and now no longer did: I started dragging&dropping the file onto the timeline rather than using Blender's Add menu. That's what seems to make the difference between the tools working or not afterwards.

I updated the reproduction steps with this information.

Thanks, can confirm after "dragging and dropping" image in vse timeline, strange though. This does not happen in default VSE template.

This is strange indeed, will have to investigate

This seems to happen with LCS keymap only. Also older versions are behaving incorrectly, so not a regression - can not bisect. Not even sure how I should start investigating this to be honest :/
