System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.22631-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 537.70

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.1.0, branch: blender-v4.1-release, commit date: 2024-03-25 20:42, hash: 40a5e739e270
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
the video editor doesnt take into account rotations with new resolutions for metastrips

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. open the video editor
  2. add an image 1920 x 1080p to the timeline
  3. press ctrl g to turn the image into a metastrip
  4. rotate the image group 90 degrees
  5. change the resolution to x = 1920 y = 1080 (vertical resolution)
you should see that the blender is trying to render the old horizontal image and is ignoring the changes to rotation
its more clear when you select the image in the timeline, when metastripped it treats itself in the context of the old resolution.

bellow is a blendfile with the steps recreated
this also applies universally not just images as far as i can tell

video shows problem in action

I'm not sure I understood the problem, here's what I did from your file:

  • I cleared the meta strip in your file.
  • re-grouped the meta strip
  • rotated the group 90 degrees
  • change the output resolution to horizontal 1920x1080

Is this result what you expected?

(Also, please use File > External Data > Pack Resources when you submit. Thanks!)

sorry to clarify the file is the final state it should be done from a fresh file as shown in the video, im unsure of if the issue persists across computers,
image (not sure if that worked) file (1) if it doesn't
you can see that the image is clipped to 1080 x 1080

with the file the final resolution doesn't need to be specifically 1080 x1920 just change Y to 1920 and play around with the x value

so fresh file
add 1080p something in this case the image but even color strips work
turn it into a metastrip
rotate it 90 degrees
change y res to 1920
slide x from 1920 down, you will see the vertical resolution of the metastrip be effected by the horizontal resolution, ~30s into the video from the original post
