Crash: Duplicated Scene strip and switch to Shading: Rendered

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Download the attached file and switch to Shading: Rendered:

Setup manually:

  • Open a fresh Blender project.
  • Add a VSE workspace.
  • Add a new scene.
  • Switch to the new scene.
  • Add: Scene: Scene.
  • Duplicate Strip above.
  • In Preview sidebar: switch to Shading: Rendered.
    Crash.

[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

Yes, with the latest the crash seems to have been fixed, however the framing changes in "Rendered". Does that do that on your setup too?

@lichtwerk There are so many problems with Scene strips, I'm getting crashes, and stuff not working with them all the time. I think Scene strips calls for some detailed BF QA in-house testing and making proper plans for them to work as intended in all areas. They should be working just as well as movie strips and have the exact same functionality. If the Scene strips become unusable, there is no reason for keeping the VSE in Blender, as it is the only thing users can't edit in any NLE out there.

I hear your pain, they seems to be working for many in many scenarios (not in others of course), for now, it is best to report each issue on the bugtracker one-by-one.

Also feel free to raise your voice in https://blender.chat/channel/sequencer-module (which I know you do, thx for that!).
You can also ping me (in reports) in case proper reports are not handled properly.
