Operating system: Linux-6.5.0-27-generic-x86_64-with-glibc2.35 64 Bits, X11 UI
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 535.161.07

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.2.0 Alpha, branch: brush-assets-project, commit date: 2024-02-29 20:10, hash: 151e5f4fe249
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Hello I have a problem with the shader editor... when I use a material from my assets to modify it and I want to create or open a new project, blender crash, I am on an experimental version but on other versions it's the same.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Create a simple plan.
  2. Apply a material from an asset browser.
  3. Open the shader editor with this material.
  4. Try to create or open a new project.

Hi @ChristianF, thank you for reporting this issue with the shader editor.

I just wanted to clarify the exact steps to reproduce the error. When you mentioned "Try to create or open a new project", could you please provide more details on what you mean by that? Are you referring to going to File > New > General? Additionally, what should we do with the test.blend file you mentioned? Should we use it as an asset?

Hello, yes open a new project via "file/new/general or file/open"... the blend file is a simple example... it was to show you that there was no error in the file or the materials...unfortunately it happens with all the materials that come from asset...also with Poly Haven or others.

thank you for your reply .

I tested with EEVEE and CYCLE .

I'm sorry, but I'm unable to understand the issue based on the provided information.
Could you please provide clearer steps to reproduce the problem?

For example:

  • Copy the file to your assets library.
  • Create a new project.
  • Add a plane to the scene.
  • Open the assets editor.
  • Drag and drop the material from the .blend file onto the plane in the assets editor.
  • Edit the material.
  • [Describe the issue you encounter when trying to create or open a new project]

Please provide any additional details or clarification to help us better understand and diagnose the issue.

I'm sorry that you don't understand... I don't do anything special,

  • 1 - open blender,
  • 2 - I create a plan,
  • 3 - I assign it a material that comes from an asset library (I choose the library that comes from artist blender site to be sure)
  • 4 - I go into the materials editor ,
  • 5 - I try to open a new file ...
  • 6 - blender crash.

is it possible that it is because of my installation of blender?.... I downloaded the file in zip, I unzipped it and I launch blender via the executable in this file... am I missing it a file in my linux directory?

A picture is worth a thousand words ;)

I just noticed that with file/open it doesn't do it with the library that comes from blender artist (charge_asset_library-materials) while with the poly haven library as well as the libraries that I create it does.
