I split the description into steps to reproduce the issue, but I'm not quite clear on how to "Attempt to build the 'Example- Rock Generator'". Could you please provide more specific instructions on how to reproduce the crashing issue in the Geometry Nodes Editor?
Rather than loading the "1_basics/rock_generator_file.blend" file, attempt to recreate the project from scratch.
the process of following the tutorial and adding the various nodes within the geometry node editor appears to cause the 'hang' problem.
Thanks for the report. Unfortunately the scenario described is too time consuming for us to track down, we require the bug reporter to narrow down the problem.
Normally .blend files can be simplified by removing most objects and disabling settings, until the problem reveals itself more clearly.
If there are many steps to reproduce the problem, please attach a .blend file saved right before the bug occurs, so only a few steps are needed to trigger the bug.

I have been carefully trying to reproduce the problem and save each step but I have NOT been able to reproduce the reported issue. I have seen relatively long delays when making node connections but these have always resolved themselves eventually. I might try being less careful with my constructions to see if this causes a problem.

I think my crashing suggestion was wrong.
Some actions are slow and this led me to think it had hung/ crashed.
The attached blend file and JPEG shows a GeoNode example and suggests that you cut a link, this action is relatively slow on my gaming laptop.

Actually can confirm in 4.2 (Earlier I checked on build without GMP)
Slow performance with boolean node is expected. You can use
fast
