Plane Still Shows within the Volume when its set to shadow catching

I can confirm this issue. Just to make it more obvious, here are some clearer images of the issue:

When the simple shadow catcher is used (always used in the viewport, can be toggled in the final render), and transparent film is off, and the shadow catcher is behind a volumetric object, the shadow catcher becomes visible. This is visible in this image as you can see the edge of the shadow catcher compared against the background.

But when transparent film is enabled, things work just fine. Here's a image with transparent film enabled, then alpha over the background colour:
