Short description of error
Blender 4.1 crashes upon loading the attached project.
Can confirm crash.
4.1 crashes loading project.to Blender crashes loading project.@LukasTonne now here is
IndexSwitch
node with nullptr storage/@mod_moder I assume you pinged me because my earlier bug report #116669 with a similar issue? I closed that one because i couldn't repro it. Would be great to know how/why node storage disappears here ...
@JakubSteiner Hi, is there any chance this file was created in 4.1, then saved in 4.0, then opened again in 4.1?
Currently that sequence isn't supported. If the file is saved in the old version, various data attached to nodes that is necessary is lost.
I can't 100% rule out that sequence. Perhaps unsupported doesn't necessarily need to result in a crash though.
This version from Fri Jan 5 is very likely untouched by 4.1, but still crashes it on opening.
That file has the index switch node, so it looks like it was saved in 4.1 as well. Generally going back and forth between versions tends to bring up quite a few tricky issues, and validation on file loading doesn't always come for free performance-wise.
Because of the back and forth between versions, there isn't much we can do here, for this case in particular at least.
Please advise on how to get the project opened in an up to date version of Blender going forward.
